Spin first worked with the Rose on the publicity for Sir Peter Hall's production of ‘As You Like It’ when the theatre was still just a concrete shell. We were lucky enough to be invited back to pitch for the branding.
A long and fruitful period of consultation followed. Spin ran several workshops with those most closely attached to the theatre, from directors to local councillors, out of which emerged a clear picture of how they wanted the public to feel about the theatre itself, as well as the work on its stages. Based on the designs of the 400-year-old theatre at Bankside, the Rose aims to present contemporary work in an Elizabethan space and people spoke passionately about the attitude the theatre should possess. They saw the Rose as straight-forward, democratic, unpretentious, unintimidating, welcoming and honest.
