Whitechapel Gallery
Founded in 1901 as one of the first publicly-funded galleries for temporary exhibitions The Whitechapel sits in the heart of London’s East End. The identity is created from a series of building blocks or units which connects with the area’s history and the way generations of immigrants have created the vibrant character it has today.
Commissioned as part of a major expansion programme, the identity has been developed as a response to the growing stature and ambition of The Whitechapel. The bespoke typography is given space and clarity in the top part of a graphic plinth, the bottom of the plinth is a place holder for more detailed information. Images are cropped to give a sense of being close to the art. The overall effect is of a confident and contemporary gallery that shares its elevated position with the artists it champions.
