How very Tokyo

We were asked, as part of an exhibition in Japan, to create a response to Tokyo. We have always been interested in the shapes and forms of Japanese characters. Our very limited understanding of them makes it's easy to see them as abstract shapes. We thought it would be interesting to take a similar approach to letters of the western alphabet and abstract the word Tokyo, creating forms reminiscent of kanji. Our experience of Japan comes only through it exports, so we created a palette of colours based on one of our favourite exports - sushi.
