Material Futures is a unique Master of Arts course at Central Saint Martins. Dedicated to exploring the creative use of new, sustainable materials. Operating at the intersection of craft, science and technology, its students strive to improve our future through purposeful innovation.
The identity was very much inspired by the futuristic characteristics inherent in the course with the logotype’s form referencing the conical flasks found in a science lab.
The logotype is paired with a marque based on the view that is seen when looking through a microscope. When one petri dish is replaced by another, you get an overlapping effect of two materials coming together. This overlap brings together science and nature or the mechanical and the organic.
