Wouter Boer Architects is a design-led studio focused on providing elegant, innovative architecture. Based in Washington DC, the firm works on a wide range of projects throughout the US. The award-winning practice concentrates primarily on residential architecture and interior design and has been widely published in leading architecture and design magazines.
We were tasked with creating an identity that amalgamates a number of historic reference points in order to create a contemporary visual language. Inspired by floor plans by Mies van der Rohe, one of the firms key influences, we created an elegant bespoke display typeface. The colour palette used across the website was inspired by colour studies developed by Josef Albers and the identity is supported by a contemporary version of the typeface ‘Neue Moderne Grotesk’, initially developed in 1908 at the German punch cutting firm Wagner & Schmidt and used by Arnold Bode for the 1964 design of documenta III.
