Symmetrika explores the space between representation and abstraction, using a single shape that works simultaneously as a modular form for patterns and as an experimental typographic unit that drifts in and out of legibility. The project explores the different attributes that one shape can take on when applied across different forms and media — typography, stamped prints and paintings, throws — registering in a new way each time. If it initially looks like a piece of pure geometric abstraction, then it’s also a typographic or perceptual experiment, an attempt to pin down the moment when shapes become carriers of meaning. It exists somewhere between pattern and lettering, abstraction and signification, idea and object.
