Comme des Garçons

Junya Watanabe’s S/S21 collection for Comme des Garçons (CDG) took inspiration from a number of treasured books that surrounded him in his studio. Among them were titles by and about SPIN, including our monograph SPIN 360°, and SPIN: Adventures in Typography 1.0 and 2.0.

Transposing entire pages, front covers and individual motifs into his jacket linings, stitched on the reverse of CDG button-up shirts and printed onto a series of iconic t-shirts, Watanabe’s collection highlighted ‘Frankenstein’s Helvetica’, among other radical experimental typographic expressions by SPIN.

A further collaboration with Watanabe involved designing a record cover for his S/S22 collection, scored by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
